    Just curious why this is classed as alpha when it appears to have 2 polarities? (I think!)

    Hmm. Maybe what I'm seeing as black south pointing magnetic polarity spots actually aren't. Oh well back to the drawing board-much to learn!

    Good question! It is likely because there is only one sunspot in this image. The hale class only cares about sunspots, not 'mag. fragments'

    Thank you pahiggins! Something has just clicked! I use solarmonitor.org to check solar orientation for my obs and images. Now another use!
